Using regular Paint programs for Curriculum
Modification and scanning
Ulead
PhotoImpact (PI) is a powerful program which takes a
little while to get used to, but which offers much
potential for various kinds of QUICK curriculum
modification. Students can use the exact worksheet
that others are using, and in many cases, worksheets
can be very quickly modified. This is an instruction
sheet showing the specific tools and features which
can be used. In learning how this program works,
ignore many of the buttons and commands available.
Focus on the tools presented in this instruction
sheet to become familiar with some of the most basic
functions for scanning and modifying worksheets. As
you become more familiar with the program, you will
gradually learn about its other features.
This is a 3 page
instruction sheet in .pdf format.

Using Ulead PhotoImpact XL for scanning and
modifying worksheets and written documents for
students with physical disabilities who use switches
or mouse emulators.
Examples of scanned
and modified worksheets. These worksheets can
be opened using PhotoImpact, and using the Pick
tool,
they can be modified by the student, using switches
connected to the Tash Mouse mover.

Scanned worksheet |

Modified in PhotoImpact - with fewer options, words
can be dragged, instructions on sheet changed.
Modified in 5 minutes! In the same program,
worksheet is scanned, and modified, and student
completes the worksheet. |
I have a student who uses
two elbow switches (one for downward mouse movement, one
for right mouse movement. The program 'Toggle
Mouse' allows screen wrapping of the mouse
cursor, so the student only needs two directions of
mouse movement and will still be able to reach any part
of the screen independently, with only two switches.
He then uses either a foot switch for mouse click and
drag, or otherwise
Dragger to allow for mouse click and drag
functions without need for another switch.
(You will need
PhotoImpact XL to open these worksheets. You can get this for a 30 day free trial download.
Another bonus with PhotoImpact is that they have many
tutorials and video tutorials on their web site.)
