Support Hours: Email is checked and answered all day, every day.  Telephone support is available from 9AM to 5PM (central time) Monday through Friday.  Voice mail messages left on evenings, weekends, and holidays will be promptly returned on the next business day.  Email and voice mail messages are always replied to.

Why would I choose to subscribe to your web site, instead of downloading some typing software?

There are several reasons:

  • Everything runs from your web browser, so there is no software to download and install.  You can get started immediately.

  • Not only do we offer comprehensive training and exercise programs, like many programs do, but we also have a large tutorials and information section.  This includes tips and tricks for improving your skill, and covers topics such as ergonomics, vision, and alternate input methods.  We also include many links to other resources on the Internet.

  • Our site is kept up-to-date with the latest information and technology, and is constantly expanding with new information and resources.

  • We are inexpensive.  For instance, if you use our site for 2 months to improve your skill, your cost is only $14.

  • Free and unlimited technical support.  Send us an email or give us a call whenever you have a question or issue.  We want to make your experience with our typing tutor as trouble-free and productive as possible.

For schools, companies, and other organizations, there are even more benefits:

  • Because everything runs from a web browser, you don't have to install software on all of your computers.  Think of all the time you'll save!

  • If your employees or students use different computers from day to day (including home computers), you don't have to worry about which computers have the proper configuration or account information.  All account information is stored on our servers, so a user can have access from any computer with an Internet connection. 

  • We are constantly expanding and upgrading the web site.  You will receive all upgrades automatically and at no extra cost.

  • Our organization pricing is also inexpensive.  Prices can go as low as a few cents per user per month.
     

Is there a version of your software that will run without an Internet connection?

Sorry, no. Our site was designed to run solely from a web browser. This allows you to get started immediately, without having to purchase and install additional software. It also allows access to the exercises, tutorials, and records from any internet-connected computer.


What operating systems does the web site work with?

The web site will work under Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, and Vista, as well as Mac OS X.  Some of our information and tutorial pages do have Windows-specific information.  We will gladly add more information for Mac users as well if there is sufficient demand.

What web browsers does your site support?

The web site is guaranteed to work with the web browsers listed below.  Later version of the browsers should also work.  Other web browsers may work, but have not been tested.

  • Internet Explorer 6 for Windows (available at www.microsoft.com/ie)

  • Firefox 1.0 for Windows and Macintosh (available at www.firefox.com)

  • Safari 1.3 for Macintosh (see notes below)

  • Internet Explorer 5.2 for Macintosh (see notes below)

Special Notes for Macintosh Users:

Upgrading to Safari 1.3 can only be accomplished by upgraded the operating system to OS 10.3.9 or later.  If your operating system version is lower than 10.3.9 you may be able to upgrade for free.  Go to the apple menu in the upper left corner of the screen, choose "software update", and follow the on-screen directions.

Since Microsoft no longer supports Internet Explorer for Macintosh, there is no version of Macintosh Internet Explorer which is compatible with our animated coaches.  If you use this browser, the web site will work properly but the coaches will not display.  The site will run as if you had not chosen a coach to use.


Do you offer discounts for schools, companies, or other organizations?

YES!  Take a look at our pricing and ordering page.


I would like to evaluate your subscription service for my organization.  Is it possible to get a free trial account so I can do this?

YES!  We offer a 30 day free trial for organizations.  Click here to apply for an account.


If my school or organization purchases now, can we start our subscription at a later date?

YES!  When placing your order, just let us know when you would like your subscription to begin.  You can include the start date when sending us a purchase order, or specify a start date when ordering online.
 

Our school does not need access to the web site during the summer months.  Can the subscription be adjusted accordingly?

YES!  When placing your order, just us know when your summer vacation starts and ends, and we will make sure your school is not charged for this time.
 

I work for a school district with thousands of students.  Can I upload the student information into the web site from a spreadsheet or database?

YES!  The first step is to use your spreadsheet or database program to export your student information as a tab-delimited text file (virtually all spreadsheet and database programs are able to do this).  Then, upload this file into the web site and your accounts will be created.  You will find complete step-by-step instructions on the web site which cover how to format the tab-delimited text file and perform the upload.  The web site can generate usernames and passwords automatically, or you can specify your own.


Do you offer 10 key (numeric keypad) testing?

YES!  After signing up, you can find a group of 10 key tests in our Tests & Exercises section.


I would like to test the typing skills of my employees or job candidates. Can your site be used for this?

YES!  Once you've signed up your company, you will have access to an administrator account which can be used to create user accounts for each person you would like to administer a typing test to.  You can assign specific typing tests to these users, and then generate a report which shows their scores.


I am not able to see your free demos.  What could be wrong?

Most likely, you need to upgrade the version of Macromedia's Flash player that you have installed.  This can be downloaded from Macromedia's web site.  Our site requires version 6 or later of this player.


How do I cancel my account?

Canceling your account can be quickly and easily done online.  First, go to our home page, www.customtyping.com, then log-in with your username and password.  After logging in, click on the "Update Account" link.  Then, click on "Close Account", and follow the on-screen instructions.
